CUP LogoThe idea of the University Press was first proposed to the PEF in the early 1980s by a group of professors, including the Rector at the time, Professor Gregory Sifakis and President of the Research Center of Crete, Professor Lefteris Economou. The Press was to be the first of its kind in Greece.

Since then, the PEF has donated more than $550,000 to this project. To date, the CUP has published over 200 titles, textbooks and other university level works created by professors from all over the world.

In addition to the books, the CUP has produced a series of music records and CDs featuring local folk musicians and singers from all regions of Greece. Today, the CUP is one of the leading institutions of its kind in Greece. It is currently able to compete with the most well-established commercial publishing houses for premiere assignments and publishing contracts. The CUP’s publications have received many prestigious awards, and several of the published texts have been selected by many of the Greek Universitioes as standard textbooks for their students. Its production of prototypical Greek Regional Music Recordings have received the prestigious Golden Award of the Academy of Athens.
